It was gathered that the deceased had prepared yam porridge for breakfast, as opposed to the noodles requested by the suspect before he stepped out of the house.
A source in the community said: “The mother was busy preparing the yam porridge without suspecting anything when the son returned.
“After stabbing the mother in the neck while she was cooking, he abandoned her in a pool of her blood and ran away, leaving behind his wife and son.
” According to the source, the man had been in a running battle with the mother after she defeated him in a court case over family issues.
The source added that late woman had four boys and three girls, one of who died recently in a fatal accident, noting that the suspect returned to Nnewi from a failed business in Aba, Abia State.
The Police spokesman said the deceased’s younger son, Onyedika Ikegwuonu, reported the matter at the Central Police Station, Nnewi.
